Department of Quality Assurance

The Yangon University of Economics is committed to assuring and enhancing the standard and delivery quality of its academic programmes and courses, and promoting a Quality of Assurance mentality across the university. Therefore, the Yangon University of Economics was established the Quality Assurance Centre in 2017. The university is practicing the AUN-QA guideline and criteria as its quality framework.

Quality Policy

  • YUEco has established its quality system and is committed to ensuring that it is understood, communicated, and implemented throughout the university and that it is revised annually for continuous improvement

The main tasks of the Centre are as follows:

  • to develop, organize and conduct the self-evaluation necessary for investigation of various aspects of quality in higher education and professional work,
  • to promote continuous collecting of information from the students and the academic staff, and taking corrective action based on this information,
  • To collect, analyze and respond to the reviews and feedback of external and internal stakeholders,
  • to encourage regular discussions on quality and foster the culture of quality within the academic and wider community,
  • To maintain and improve the teaching and learning practices, student learning experience, researches, and community services,
  • To provide guidance and support in implementing and achieving the quality assurance works regarding teaching, physical resources, services, and international accreditation on programme of academic department, and

To effectively deliver student services towards a dynamic learning environment and manage resources for sustainable organizational growth.

Workshop on Quality Assurance System

Workshop about Quality Assurance System (partnering for Quality Assurance Structures and Enhancement) was held at Yangon University of Economics from 14th to 16th August 2017. The objectives of the workshop are to know the formation of Quality Assurance (QA) unit and its structure, to organize the working group and to assign the leading role at QA unit.

In this workshop, Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Benedikt (Professor from Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development), Prof. Dr. Philipp Pohlenz (Managing Director of the Center for Quality Development in Teaching and Studies at the University of Potsdam), Dr. Frank Niedermeier (Research Assistant at the Center for Quality Development in Teaching and Studies at the University of Potsdam) and Prof. Dr. Duu Sheng Ong ( Professor from University Malaya) shared their experience of ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) and then they did presentation and discussion of their expectations. Rector, Pro-rector, Department Heads and Professors from all academic and supporting departments, guest attendants from Monywa and Meikhtila Universities of Economics attended this workshop.

This workshop helped the participants to know the topic of
  • Knowing your institution- Introduction to Mock Audit,
  • SWOT analysis and its benefits in QA process,
  • Introduction to QA system based on AUN-QA system,
  • Samples of QA structure,
  • How to manage change and
  • Using the action plan for implementation of the project.

The participants presented about the Higher education in Myanmar, and challenges of higher education in Myanmar. And then, they discuss to conduct about the QA meeting with stakeholders and to prepare the action plan.

Training on Quality Assurance Model & System

Training about developing Quality Assurance Model and System was conducted in Yangon University of Economics on 28th September 2017 and 29th September 2017. The objective of the training is to understand Quality Assurance Model and System of AUN-QA.

In the training, Pro-Rector Dr. Tun Aung was the principal trainer and Dr. Nu Nu Lwin (QA Director 2017 – 2018) was co-trainer together with the working group members. In this training, the working group members are separated into 5 working groups to be an effective training. Leaders of each group included Dr. Nilar Myint Htoo who is Pro-Rector at present (Professor, Department of Economics – 2017), Dr. Tin Tin Htwe (Professor, Department of Commerce), Dr. Mya Thandar (Professor, Department of Statistics), Dr. Cho Cho Thein (Professor, Department of Applied Economics, 2017) and Dr. Myint Myint Kyi (Professor, Department of Management Studies).

This training helped the participants to know the topic of
  • QA system,
  • AUN QA model,
  • IQA system,
  • 11 criteria for QA,
  • Detailed assessment of each criteria,
  • How to score each criterion and
How to prepare assessment planning at programme level.
Training on Self-Assessment Report Writing

Training about Self-Assessment Report (SAR) writing was conducted at the ground floor of Yangon University of Economics on 16th October 2017 and 17th October 2017. The objective of the training is to understand how to write SAR along with SWOT analysis, the area of improvement for each programme, and the nature of Quality Assurance.

In this training, Pro-Rector Dr. Tun Aung was the principal trainer and Dr. Nu Nu Lwin (QA Director 2017 – 2018) was co-trainer together with the working group members. The leaders of each working group were Dr. Nilar Myint Htoo who is Pro-Rector at present (Professor, Department of Economics – 2017), Dr. Tin Tin Htwe (Professor, Department of Commerce), Dr. Mya Thandar (Professor, Department of Statistics), Dr. Cho Cho Thein (Professor, Department of Applied Economics, 2017) and Dr. Myint Myint Kyi (Professor, Department of Management Studies). This training helped the participants to understand how to present SAR at program level.

Workshop on Quality Assurance Structures and Enhancement

Workshop about Quality Assurance Structures and Enhancement (QASTE) was held at Yangon University of Economics on 31st October 2017 and 1st November 2017. The objectives of the workshop are to come out the result about the balance between QA work and teaching workload, and the effective utilization of Google platforms, to collect stakeholder feedback, to conduct student evaluation for teachers, and to understand how to use the evaluation Software provided by University of Potsdam.

In this workshop, Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Benedikt (Professor from Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development), and Prof. Dr. Duu Sheng (Professor from University Malaya) gave extensive discussions and comments on presentation of Department Heads and Professors from Master of Pubic Administration, Master of Development Studies, Master of Banking and Finance, Master of Applied Statistics, and Master of Business Administration.

Workshop on Teaching & Learning and Student Assessment

Workshop about Teaching & Learning and Student Assessment was held at Yangon University of Economics on 28th May 2018 and 29th May 2018. In workshop, Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Benedikt (Professor from Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development), and Prof. Dr. Duu Sheng (Professor from University Malaya) presented the teaching and learning approach and student assessment for AUN criteria. Department Heads, professors and QA working group from respective departments participated in this workshop.

This workshop helped the participants to know the topic of
  • Teaching and learning approach,
  • Identify the Gaps of Teaching and Learning Approach,
  • Solutions for selected gaps,
  • Gaps of student assessment and
How to develop the action plan for all gaps.
Workshop on Learning Outcomes & Constructive Alignment

Workshop about Learning Outcomes & Constructive Alignment was held in Yangon University of Economics on 1st November 2018 and 2nd November 2018. The objectives of the workshop are to understand the development of learning outcomes, curriculum, Teaching & Learning Approach, Assessment Method (TLA) and constructive alignment.

Dr. Philipp Pohlenz (Higher Education Research & Academic Development, Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg ( OVGU), Germany, Dr. Lucila R. Calairo Director, QA office, De La Salle University, Philippine, Dr. Tin Win (Rector, Yangon University of Economics),  Dr. Thida Kyu (Pro-Rector, MEUE), Dr. Nu Nu Lwin (Professor, Department of Management Studies), Daw Thwe Thwe Oo, (Associate Professor, Technological University (Hmawbi)),  Dr. Myint Myint Kyi (Professor, Department of Management Studies) and lecturers of each programme attended this workshop. The workshop was organized in the form of group works and group presentations.

Workshop on Program Specification

Workshop about Programme Specification based on Outcome Based Education (OBE) was held at Rector Office in Yangon University of Economics on 13th September 2019. The objective of the workshop is to prepare tasks for accreditation of AUN QA at Programme Level.

Workshop on SAR Report Presentation and Feedback

Workshop about SAR Report Presentation and Feedback was held at Rector Office in Yangon University of Economics on 17th July 2020. It was an online workshop because of pandemic situation. The objective of the workshop is to suggest about the forwarding process related with SAR report.

Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Benedikt (Professor from Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development), Prof. Dr. Duu Sheng (Professor from Multimedia University, Malaysia) , Dr. Nilar Myint Htoo (Pro-Rector), , Professors and Heads of Master Programmes, Dr. Aye Thu Htun (Professor and In Charge of QA Centre) and QA unit members and QA center members participated this workshop.

This workshop started with the presentations of the Programme Directors and Mr. Duu Sheng discuss the about the accomplishment. The main points on discussion were to present the supporting documents which support as evidence, to modify the clear vision for the university, to benchmark the report with other same characteristics universities and to analyze the student to teacher ratio for teaching quality by referring AUN-QA Guidebook.
