Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce is one of the most prestigious research and education institutions of commercial science in Yangon University of Economics, whose educational programs have successfully been developed to cultivate leading academics and business professionals. The educational programs the department provides cover all the research areas of commercial science including (a) commerce, (b) management, (c) accounting, (d) banking and finance, (e) human resource management, and (f) marketing.

The educational objective of the master’s program at the department is to nurture scholars who possess a fundamental research capability and business professionals who have expertise sufficient to independently engage in business activities through providing the students with advanced knowledge and expertise related to commercial science.Besides the regular courses, the department offers two kinds of human resource development (HRD) programmes, that is Master of Banking and Finance (MBF) Programme and Diploma in Marketing (DIM) Programme.

Programmes

Master of Banking & Finance ( MBF )

The objectives of MBF Programme are to (1) develop human resources of the country particularly in the area of finance and banking, (2) improve business performance through the wider and deeper understanding in banking and finance, and (3) support national economy and enhance international competitiveness through the understanding in the development of banking and financial sector.

The potential candidates need to be fulfilled with three requirements to get admission: (1) getting the first degree in any recognized university, (2) having a minimum three years working experience in banking and financial related field, and (3) be able to attend full-time throughout the course.

The programme takes totally three years in which course work requires two years and preparing and submitting dissertation requires one year. Lectures are taken at the morning (7 am to 9 am) except weekend and public holidays.Four quarters are divided in each year of course work and the examination will be taken at the end of each quarter. One module is awarded for four credit units and totally 96 credits will be necessary to successfully complete the two-year course work. The degree will be awarded upon the submitting of dissertation after completing all necessary course works

Diploma in Marketing ( DIM )

 The objectives of DIM Programme are to (1) nurture human resources who have better knowledge on management and marketing management which are critical for today’s businesses, (2) effectively distribute the marketing management and modern marketing techniques to the public, (3) contribute to innovation and creativity by businesses by providing better understanding in marketing concepts for those who want to deliver their goods and services to the market successfully, (4) support organizations to be able to develop new markets in align with environmental situations, opportunities and challenges, and monitor and fulfill the changes in consumers’ needs.

The potential candidates need to be fulfilled with two requirements for admission: (1) getting the first degree in any recognized university,and (2) be able to attend full-time throughout the course.The programme takes one year in which course work takesnine months and term paper requires 3 months. Lectures are taken in the evening (5:30 pm to 7:30 pm) except weekend and public holidays. The examination will be taken at the end of each quarter, and one module is awarded for two credit units and totally 30 credits will be necessary to successfully complete the course work.The degree will be awarded upon the submitting of dissertation after completing all necessary course works.

Research
